The Last Match (最後(さいご)試合(しあい), Saigo no Shiai) is the 80th episode of the Inazuma Eleven series.

Summary[]

As the Asia finals draw near, Inazuma Japan are training hard to complete their new techniques. While they're practicing, a letter was sent to Endou, which shocks him and the team because the writing on it is similar to Daisuke's. Later in the night, Endou runs into Gouenji, and is told by him about his quitting soccer after the next match. Endou tries to persuade Coach Kudou, later Gouenji's father to let him continue soccer, but fails. Coach Kudou then orders them to practice on a mud field till their game with Fire Dragon. The team listens, but will they have enough training to win their next match?

Plot[]

Inazuma Japan trains by splitting into two teams and playing against one another, and everyone seems to be in good shape. Fubuki and Hijikata practice the movements of their new hissatsu technique that they plan on using in the next match. However, when Toramaru and Gouenji try practicing Tiger Storm, the latter has flashbacks to his confrontation with his father, and the shoot fails. Toramaru notices that Gouenji seems to be weighed down by some worries.

During water break, Aki delivers a letter with no address to Endou. He opens it up as his teammates watch closely and is shocked to see that the handwriting matches the one from his grandfather's notebook, which sends Fuyuka into a state of shock and deep thought, like from the previous episode. The letter says, "I'm waiting for you at the top." Otonashi and Kidou quickly conclude that "the top" refers to the top of the FFI, and that his grandfather is involved with one of the national teams. Megane is skeptical and reminds everyone that Endou's grandfather died many years ago, and speculates that the letter could be a trap to shake things up. Tachimukai retorts that the messy handwriting is identical to the one in the notebooks, and that no one else can possibly replicate it. The two argue while their teammates hold them back. Endou dismisses the letter and encourages everyone to train regardless of the situation.

That evening, Endou brings the note to Hibiki, who reluctantly tells him that there is a possibility that his grandfather is still alive, but nothing is finalized yet. While walking back to the training camp from the ramen shop, he encounters Gouenji training next to the river, and stops to talk to him. He notices that Gouenji seems more depressed than usual, and asks him about his situation. Gouenji hesitantly tells Endou about the fact that he will be quitting soccer after the finals due to his father's orders. Endou is visibly upset and yells at him to stand up for himself, to which he responds that he has made a definite decision. Endou loudly confronts Kudou about this in the training camp, but Kudou calmly answers that the matter is difficult to handle. Kudou also mentions that Gouenji has made a deal with his father that he would play in the upcoming finals match, which his father originally forbid him from entering.

The next morning, Megane announces that their next opponent has been decided. Korea's team, Fire Dragon, has defeated Saudi Arabia's team in a 4-0 shutout. Kudou prepares a mudfield for the team to practice in and insists that they should train in the mud rather than complete their hissatsu techniques. At first, Inazuma Japan is hesitant to step in the muddy field, but Gouenji steps right in begins to run around. Endou joins, the soon, the entire team feels motivated to play in the mud. The mud makes it much harder to play; they slip, fall, and struggle to dribble, but they all have fun.

Endou tries to convince Gouenji's father at the hospital to let Gouenji continue playing soccer. But as he bows his head and expresses his thoughts, the doctor simply walks past him and dismisses his pleading.

On the day of the finals match, Inazuma Japan boards the Inazuma Caravan and heads over to the stadium. They suddenly abruptly stop as Tobitaka's former gang members block the street.
